Storm Blows Down Fort Worth Gas Station's Awning

SAGINAW (CBSDFW.COM) - Some really powerful storms pounded North Texas early Tuesday morning, bringing heavy rain, dangerous hail and strong gusts of wind to the DFW area. The severe weather left behind a trail of damage, and a Tarrant County gas station is now forced to clean up an incredible mess.
The clerk working at Ron & Franks Convenience Store captured cell phone video of the building's awning bending and shaking in the wind. She said that two vehicles were at the gas pumps underneath that awning, and the drivers managed to escape just before the awning blew down.
It happened during the height of the storm, leaving the awning flipped upside down in front of the store. Some lines for phone and cable services were also knocked down in the process, now trapped underneath the collapsed awning. The driveway to the store is no longer passable.
"The wind was blowing really, really hard," recalled store clerk Tanya Jackson. "The awning was just a-rocking. I had two cars underneath. We got them out just before it fell down on the pumps and went over onto the lines." Jackson managed to hit the emergency stop on the gas pumps before the awning was ripped from the building.
Still, the Fort Worth clerk is thankful that the situation was not worse. Jackson stated that her biggest fear was "that the whole store was going to be taken away. And I had a store full of people at the time."
The storm also left several people across Fort Worth, Blue Mound and Saginaw without electricity. Ron & Franks Convenience Store is among those locations now with no power. Crews from Oncor have been working to fix the downed lines. Most of the damage throughout the area appears to be cosmetic.
