Store Clerk Mourns For Security Guard Shot Dead
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - There may no longer be an active crime scene outside the Bruton Food and Deli convenience store in the Pleasant Grove section of Dallas... but it is still a very sad scene.
Jessica Alvarado mourns for Rodney Rone, the 46-year-old security guard shot and killed here. "He was a great guy. He died doing what he did for us -- he protected us."
Alavarado is the store clerk who says Rone sprang into action when three men came to rob them as they locked up for the night.
"I just heard the guy say drop it, and I saw all the guns, and when they were coming towards me, he lunged at one of then, that's when he shot him with a semi-automatic. Shot him a whole bunch of times."
Alvarado says she was surprised she wasn't hit by flying bullets. "I'm grateful for him, but I'm so sorry that his life was lost. The money, it's not worth it, I mean really?"
To drive that point home, a sign hanging on the front door says the clerk doesn't have access to the safe.
Dallas police haven't made any arrests just yet.
