NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Frightening moments for some people traveling in Dallas and Mesquite Wednesday morning, as a man driving a stolen flatbed truck led Dallas County Sheriff's Deputies on a high speed chase.
The flatbed truck was stolen in Terrell and police there were pursuing the vehicle.
When the driver reached Dallas County members of the Dallas County Sheriff's Office (DSO) and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) took over. DPS also put their helicopter in the air to follow the driver.
The man was traveling at a fast rate of speed and ran red lights as he moved through the Pleasant Grove area. He also traveled on Scyene Road in Mesquite and doubled back and forth between Dallas and that city.
Members of DSO attempted several times to disable the truck by throwing out 'stop strips' tire deflation devices. At one point, while traveling on Galloway Avenue in Mesquite, the driver attempted to avoid one of those stop strips by swerving onto oncoming traffic and continuing driving down the street for a couple of miles.
Despite trying to dodge those stop strips deputies were able to puncture at least one of the vehicle's tires.
After exiting Interstate-635 onto a Mesquite service road, the driver turned on Americana Lane and slowly came to a stop not far from Poteet High School.
Law enforcement converged on the truck and removed the driver without incident. The unidentified man was taken into custody and is expected to be facing a number of charges.
