Statistics Show North Texas Is Poised For Education And Employment Growth

From 2010 to 2012, the Dallas population increased by approximately 43,000 people and the Fort Worth population increased by roughly 36,000 people. The two-year combined growth for all of the North Texas metropolitan cities is over 250,000.

What brings 125,000 people to the North Texas every year? Business. With the lure of tax breaks, warm climate and plenty of land to build new facilities, many companies have relocated to North Texas.

Women-owned businesses are on the rise. Kay St. John, North Texas president of BB&T Bank, has 22 branches in Texas and is planning on having 60 by the end of the year. Eleven of those new branches will be in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

North Dallas is also the home of the famed cosmetics company Mary Kay Inc.; the company's annual seminar brings an estimated $50 million to the local economy every July.

Banks love growing cities. With people relocating, building homes and businesses taking out loans to expand, it means more business for them. CEO, Chairman Mariner Kemper of UMB Bank told the Dallas Business Journal in July that it will open its first Dallas location in the Arts District.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in both the Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington and the Dallas/Plano/Irving areas has increased at a steady rate since 2003. While DFW still experiences unemployment, it is making steady improvements and is poised to continue to do so.

Everything is growing in Texas. As more people migrate to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, more stores, hospitals and entertainment venues are needed and more people to work in those venues are also needed.

Education is a vital key in the employment lock. The Dallas County Community College District has seven campuses throughout the Dallas area to serve the community. Along with the Tarrant County College District, the University of Texas at Dallas, University of North Texas, the University of Texas at Arlington the University of Phoenix, there are plenty of educational options available for those that want to retool their skills or start a new career.
