State Senator Davis To Testify At Redistricting Hearing
WASHINGTON (AP) - A North Texas state lawmaker whose district was controversially remapped by the Legislature is scheduled to testify in a federal court in Washington, D.C.
State Sen. Wendy Davis will give evidence Friday as a three-judge panel takes more evidence on whether the new Texas legislative district map violates the U.S. Voting Rights Act.
The Fort Worth Democrat is one of several lawmakers testifying at the two-week hearing who have seen their districts changed dramatically in the new Texas map, which was redrawn to reflect 2010 U.S. Census data. Davis drew the ire of Republicans earlier this year when she filibustered a GOP-backed school finance plan.
Friday is the fourth day of a federal court hearing on the Texas redistricting case.
