State Senate Expected To Approve Voter Maps
AUSTIN (AP) - The Texas Senate is scheduled to vote on the state's political maps and a new sentence for 17-year-olds convicted of capital murder.
Gov. Rick Perry called the Legislature into special session last month to make permanent a temporary redistricting plan drawn last year by a federal court in San Antonio. He recently added a measure that would change the sentence for 17-year-olds guilty of capital crimes to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 40 years.
Senators are expected to vote Friday morning on these two issues. They are then scheduled to meet in committees that are expected to approve additional funding for highways and restrictions on abortion.
The special session ends on June 25.
