State Rep Fielding Income Tax Questions
A state income tax proposal has the phones ringing at one state representatives office. This week Ft. Worth State Representative Lon Burnam said he would once again introduce a state income tax bill this legislative session. Ever since they he's had calls and questions about it. He says first state law requires that one third of the revenue would go towards property tax relief. "We've had all sorts of conversations about property tax relief over several sessions never really achieving this." The rest by law goes to education and it would take a two thirds vote of the legislature and a statewide vote of the people, two things not easy to accomplish. He says one problem however is the income tax gets a bad wrap because of the way the federal government handles it. He says his would be very simple, limited in scope, and actually cause some people's total tax burden to go down.
