Agencies Prepared For Freezing Super Bowl Temperatures
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Super Bowl XLV is just one week away and fans are already beginning to descend on North Texas.
Fort Worth city officials said they are expecting as many as 150,000 extra people to visit the area. With the threat of snow in the forecast, plans are already underway to make sure residents and visitors can navigate the region safely.
Texas Department of Transportation officials said they have clearance to call on the state's extra resources to help sand and clear roads.
They said the region could add as many as 70 additional pieces of equipment should the weather warrant the need for more help.
Fans said they are not overly concerned about the weather threat. While they have enjoyed this weekend's spring-like temperatures, one resident summed it up: "Texas weather is crazy."
Another fan said cold, snowy weather is exactly what Packer and Steeler fans are used to enjoying.
"Watch (the Packer and Steeler fans) are going to be out here in shorts and we're going to be out here freezing," said resident Dannie Rodgers.
Cities like Fort Worth, Dallas and Arlington also said they have additional resources on patrol and said there were no reports of any trouble this weekend.
Sundance Square will be a hot spot this week as ESPN plans to broadcast their coverage from there with the shows starting at 5am Monday morning.
