State Fair Of Texas Opens Gates In Dallas

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - It's fair time again in Dallas as the annual State Fair of Texas opens for the 126th year. Gates open at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning.

Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples opens the 40th anniversary of the Texas Department of Agriculture's Food and Fiber Pavilion a short time later. The Girl Scouts will also mark their centenary with an exhibit in the Hall of State auditorium.

Want to see a really big Frito pie? Plano-based Frito-Lay North America Inc. is marking the 80th year of the iconic corn chip with what it's billing as the world's largest Frito pie on Monday in the Big Tex Circle.

And on the Cotton Bowl gridiron, Grambling State will square off against Prairie View A&M on October 6, before Oklahoma takes on Texas in the annual Red River Rivalry on October 13.
