Stars Sign Spezza To 4-Year Extension

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Dallas Stars have signed center Jason Spezza to a four-year contract extension, the team announced on Friday.

Per club policy, the details of the deal were not released, but TSN Canada values the deal at $30 million.

In his first season with Dallas, Spezza has posted 18 points (4 goals, 14 assists) in 20 games.

"Jason is a world-class player and his commitment to the organization is a reflection of what we are building in Dallas," said General Manager Jim Nill. "The professionalism and production he brings to our group is key for our success moving forward and we value the leadership he brings to our team."

Spezza leads Dallas with 14 assists, which is ninth in the NHL.

The 31-year-old spent 11 seasons with the Ottawa Senators before arriving in Dallas via trade in July.

In 706 career games, Spezza has posted 705 points (255 G, 450 A).  He is a two-time All Star (2008, 2012) who has represented Team Canada on the international stage on six occasions.

He was selected by Ottawa in the first round (2nd overall) in the 2001 NHL Draft.
