DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Dallas Stars have signed goaltender Antti Niemi to a three-year contract extension, the team announced on Monday.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed, per club policy.

Dallas acquired Niemi on June 25 from San Jose in exchange for a seventh round selection in the NHL Draft.

"We acquired Antti's rights with the expectation to get him signed and we're thrilled to have come to an agreement this quickly," General Manager Jim Nill said. "This gives us two upper-echelon goaltenders and the quality of depth at that position will provide us a great chance to win on a nightly basis."

Niemi, 31, posted a 31-23-7 record with a .914 save percentage and five shutouts with San Jose last season.

In his career with San Jose and Chicago, he's posted a 190-100-40 regular season record with a 2.39 goals against average, a .916 save percentage and 32 shutouts.

Niemi competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics, where Finland earned a Bronze Medal.

Starting goaltender Kari Lehtonen signed a five-year, $29.5 million extension with Dallas in 2012. He is under contract through the 2017-18 season.
