Stars Deal Disappointing Brunnstrom To Leafs

FRISCO (Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars sent underachieving forward Fabian Brunnstrom to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday for forward prospect Mikhail Stefanovich.

Brunnstrom, 25, an undrafted free agent from Sweden, made a splash in his NHL debut on October 15, 2008 by recording a hat trick in a 6-4 win over Nashville. However, he struggled to 17 goals and 29 points and a minus-eight rating in 55 games that season.

Last year, he was shuttled between Dallas and its American Hockey League affiliate, recording just two goals and 11 points in 44 NHL contests. Still, the Stars awarded him with a one-year, one-way contract extension worth $675,000 in late July.

Brunnstrom has spent this whole season in the AHL, posting 11 goals and 21 points in 37 games with Texas.

The 21-year-old Stefanovich tallied one goal in 15 games with Dynamo Minsk of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League. He also skated in two games for the Toronto Marlies of the AHL and four games with Reading of the ECHL.
