Standoff In South Fort Worth Puts Elementary School On Lockdown

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Students were locked inside an elementary school for several hours in Fort Worth Tuesday morning, while police fired gas canisters into a house looking for a shooting suspect.

Once police entered the house though, they discovered the man they were looking for was not inside. They later arrested him two miles away, without incident.

Someone called police to a house on Willow Creek Ct. just after 7 a.m., saying a man had shot into a car and threatened to kill a woman.

Police said the man's girlfriend and another woman were able to get out of the house.

Police said they were able to communicate with the man, who told them he was also no longer inside the house, but they didn't believe him. They had also been told he had a large number of weapons.

The standoff happened across the street from Parkway Elementary School. The Crowley school district placed the campus on lockdown, but before noon decided to put Pre-K students on a bus and move them to another campus where parents could pick them up.

Parents of older students remained outside the school while shots fired by police started echoing through the residential neighborhood.

After finding no one in the home, police moved the crowd deeper into the neighborhood, uncertain of where the suspect was.

The lockdown was lifted close to 12:30 p.m. after police found the man and arrested him.

By late Tuesday afternoon they had not officially identified the man, or said what charges he might face.
