Spring Break Crowds Expected At Fort Worth Zoo
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - An annual Spring Break tradition will resume Monday morning in Fort Worth. Huge crowds are expected to pack the Fort Worth Zoo this week, but visitors this year will have to deal with even more traffic problems than usual. Road construction is currently taking place in the surrounding area.
Spring Break is typically one of the biggest weeks of the year for the Fort Worth Zoo, if not the single biggest week. The zoo traditionally sees about 100,000 people over the course of the week. Attendance reaches a climax on Wednesday, when zoo admission drops to half-price.
Traffic usually backs up along Interstate-30 and University Drive, just south of downtown Fort Worth, all week long during zoo hours. But this year, there may be more traffic problems. The North Texas Tollway Authority is working on the Chisholm Trail Parkway road construction project. That is located near the intersection of Interstate-30 and University Drive, causing even more delays in the zoo area.
Both the NTTA and the Fort Worth Zoo are recommending that visitors take advantage of the city's public transportation system. The Safari Shuttle bus will run from downtown Fort Worth to the Fort Worth Zoo every 30 minutes starting at 9:30 a.m. Monday morning. A day pass on the shuttle is just $3.50 for adults and $1.75 for seniors and children. Kids under 5 years old ride for free.
But zoo visitors are not the only ones who will likely get stuck in the increased traffic. Anyone who works in downtown Fort Worth and travels from the east or west along Interstate-30 might want to leave the house a little earlier than normal, all week long, to avoid getting delayed.
