NEW YORK (CBSDFW.COM) - Stephen Colbert has certainly made an impact on the late night scene, and in February, he will make history. "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" will become the first late night series to ever run an episode directly after the Super Bowl.
This special live edition of "The Late Show" will be broadcast immediately after Super Bowl 50 on February 7, from the famed Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City. The show will be followed by CBS 11 News.
Not to be outdone, a special edition of "The Late Late Show With James Corden" will then air after the news.
"It's been a very big year in late night at CBS," said CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller. "We're extremely proud of our two new late night franchises, and we're thrilled to give Stephen and James this big Super Bowl Sunday showcase."
Past years have seen CBS programs like "Survivor," "Elementary" and "Criminal Minds" take the coveted post-football slot.
Colbert debuted on CBS back in September and now averages more than 3 million viewers -- plus many more episode streams online. Corden started his CBS show in March and averages more than 1 million viewers an hour later, again with more online buzz.
Super Bowl 50 will be played at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
