SPCA Bringing Pets From Oklahoma To DFW
MCKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - The SPCA of Texas is transporting about 70 cats and dogs from Oklahoma to the DFW area on Wednesday, after deadly tornadoes devastated the state on Monday. The pets are coming from the Central Oklahoma Humane Society, and will be taken to the Russell H. Perry Animal Care Center in McKinney.
The animals coming to Texas on Wednesday are not ones that were affected by Monday's storms. But rather, the Central Oklahoma Humane Society is looking to free up space at their shelters in order to house those pets who were lost when tornadoes ripped apart entire neighborhoods. This gives the organization more room to keep those lost pets until their owners can find them and reunite.
The SPCA of Texas reached out to the Central Oklahoma Humane Society on Tuesday and offered their services. Officials in Texas will evaluate all of the transferred animals, provide sterilization services if necessary, and begin looking for folks to adopt the newly acquired dogs and cats.
The animals are scheduled to arrive in McKinney shortly after midnight. The SPCA of Texas is also prepared to accept more animals from Oklahoma in the coming days, if needed.
And, in an effort to create extra room at their own shelters, the SPCA of Texas is offering a 50 percent discount on dog and cat adoption fees starting on Friday and lasting through the weekend. Pets can be adopted at the Russell H. Perry Animal Care Center in McKinney and at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas. Click here for directions, times and additional information.
"The SPCA of Texas asks the community to come forward and open their homes and their hearts to these animals and the hundreds already waiting for homes," said organization spokeswoman Maura Davies in a press release.
