Spain Wins World Cup

Spain scored a late-game goal in extra time to win the country's first World Cup title 1-0.

The two teams were level at 0-0 after the first 30 minutes of the World Cup final on Sunday, with Sergio Ramos having the best chance to score with a header in the fifth.

The Spain defender sent his header from Xavi Hernandez's cross on target, but goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg was there to make the save. Gerard Pique reached the rebound but couldn't do anything with it.

Spain striker David Villa had a chance in the 12th, but his left-foot volley from Xabi Alonso's cross hit the side-netting.

Nigel de Jong was lucky to escape without a red card after kicking Xabi in the chest while going for a ball. He was given a yellow card.
