Space Shuttle Replica Looking For Name

HOUSTON (AP) - Texans are being given the chance to name the full-sized space shuttle replica that will be displayed at Johnson Space Center's official visitor center in Houston.

The visitor center, Space Center Houston, is running its "Name the Shuttle" contest through Labor Day.

State residents can enter the contest by visiting nametheshuttle.com and submitting an original name. A panel of judges will select one winner, who will be announced in mid-September.

The shuttle replica, which will sit atop a 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, will be part of a $12 million, six-story attraction at Space Center Houston.

Houston, which has deep ties to the nation's space program and is home to Johnson Space Center and Mission Control, unsuccessfully tried to land one of NASA's four retired space shuttles.
