DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - If you fly, it's probably happened to you: You arrive -- but your bags don't.
It happened to Gay Morris, who flew into Dallas Love Field Airport Tuesday on Southwest Airlines.
"It's a little frustrating because I'm driving three hours to Hugo, Oklahoma and everything's in my bag," Morris said frustrated.
Kristy Romo knows the feeling. "It is a frustration, especially because we weren't a late check-in," she said. "We had arrived in plenty of time."
But Romo was relieved to be picking hers up. "Very. We're about to head out of town again for the holiday and needed the clothes inside."
A new government report on mishandled baggage shows from January through September of this year, Southwest ranked 9th out of 12 major airlines.
Virgin America scored highest. Delta, United, and American also came in ahead of Southwest.
Morris was surprised by the figures. "I would not have thought that. I would have thought that Southwest has probably the best, 'cause I love Southwest and I usually have good experiences with it."
In a statement, Southwest Airlines said, in part -
"When our competitors added bag fees, the average number of bags carried on other airlines did decrease, which helped improve the DOT rankings of the competition..."
The airline did give $50 vouchers to Morris and Romo, who says, "I think it goes far since I have my bag. It would be a different story if I didn't have my bag."
A Southwest spokeswoman said the airline has improved, and that last month, they correctly delivered 99.5-percent of passengers' baggage.
