DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – About 200 Southwest Airlines passengers are finally back home in the U.S. after being stranded in Punta Cana, a popular vacation destination in the Dominican Republic.
LaDell Harrison of Keller was one of the passengers in the group. "My wife Sandra and I were celebrating our 37th wedding anniversary," he said.
They had showed up for a return flight to the U.S. on Sunday September 25th only for it to be cancelled.
The next day it happened again.
Making matters worse Harrison says Southwest Airlines provided below standard accommodations for the 2 days they were stranded. "Our hotel room had mold and it had bugs in the bed and just an uncomfortable situation."
Harrison is back home but still frustrated at the treatment from the airline. He says they deserve a lot more than just an apology.
Harrison said "It was just a terrible feeling and really a disappointment that Southwest which is based in our area would do that to its customers"
Southwest Airlines did issue an apology through a statement that said in part:
"Southwest's Customer service team offered a gesture of goodwill to each customer in the amount of two $200 vouchers to use as travel credit for future travel, arranged hotel accommodations for two nights' in Punta Cana, and are in the process of offering a one-way refund."
