Southwest Airlines & Dish Extend Live TV Deal

DALLAS (AP) - Southwest Airlines Co. and Dish Network Corp. said Thursday that they will extend free in-flight, live-TV service through the end of this year for passengers who watch on their own Internet-capable devices.

The service started last July and includes nearly 20 channels and up to 75 on-demand programs. At the time, Southwest said it would be free through the end of 2013. A Dish spokeswoman said Thursday that the satellite-TV company would continue paying the cost.

Dish said that mobile video viewing on Southwest flights has increased more than 20 percent since federal officials eased limits on use of personal electronic devices more than two months ago.

In the deal, Dish gets Southwest loyalty-program points to use as rewards for people who sign up for its home-TV service.
