Southlake Panel Denies Lights For School
SOUTHLAKE (CBSDFW.COM) - The Southlake Planning and Zoning Committee voted down a request Thursday that would have allowed lights to be installed at the Southlake Carroll High School baseball field.
The final vote was 3-1.
While parents and athletes supported the possible move to add bright lights, homeowners near the playing field expressed concern.
Carroll Independent School District trustees unanimously approved installing lights at the high school field last month. But the field's neighbors were worried about having bright lights beaming toward their yards and windows. Residents said that they were also concerned about the large crowds that could result from the lights, and how the light installation will impact their property value.
Homeowners have urged urged the school district to look for another option.
The district said that it is trying to play ball with neighbors, and intends to limit the number of night games each year. Also, the district plans to have no games start later than 7:00 p.m. and promises to dim the lights and quiet the sound system once games have ended.
The matter's not entirely over. The planning panel's vote comes up for consideration by the city council in a week and a half.
