South Texas Gets 9 Inches Of Rain, Not Related to Gordon

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Parts of South Texas have been soaked with more than 9 inches of rain in a system that experts say is not related to Tropical Storm Gordon in the Gulf of Mexico.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch until early Tuesday afternoon for the San Antonio and Austin areas.

Forecaster Nick Hampshire says some street flooding and high-water rescues were reported Monday night and early Tuesday in the San Antonio area, but nobody was hurt.

Hampshire says parts of northern San Antonio received more than 9 inches of rain since Monday before the severe weather began tapering off Tuesday. He says the heavy rain, not tied to Tropical Storm Gordon, could help ease the South Texas drought.

Galveston received more than 10 inches of rain Monday.
