Cowboys Ready To Release Romo On Thursday

FRISCO (105.3 THE FAN) - The Dallas Cowboys are planning to release quarterback Tony Romo on Thursday, the first day of the NFL's free agency, sources tell 105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher.
According to Fisher, Romo is aware of the team's plan to release him.
The former Cowboys quarterback will enter the free agency waters for the first time since signing with Dallas as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Illinois in 2003. He saw his job usurped this past season by rookie Dak Prescott, after a back injury during the preseason kept Romo out of action until week 11.
Multiple reports have linked Romo to the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans in recent days.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network said Wednesday that both clubs are "very interested suitors" in the chase to pick up Romo in free agency, and Fisher says that the Broncos want to be first in line when Romo is released.
When asked about a possible future destination for Romo, a source told Fisher they "can't talk on that til Thursday. That would be tampering. Seriously."
Fish reports that Dallas will designate Romo as a post-June 1 cut, meaning the club will gain an extra $14 million in cap space as of June 1.
Any deal that Romo reaches will likely include protections against injury, as the 36-year-old is prone to getting hurt and still unproven after briefly returning for a touchdown drive in week 17.
