Source: Cavs Offer Mavs Target Bynum 2-Year Deal
CLEVELAND (CBSDFW.COM/AP) -- Another potential free agent target of the Dallas Mavericks is garnering attention around the league. A person with knowledge of the negotiations says the Cleveland Cavaliers have offered free-agent center Andrew Bynum a two-year contract.
The Cavs made the offer Monday night, a deal that includes a team option for the second year.
The person who spoke to the Associated Press on Tuesday did so on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the talks. Yahoo! Sports first reported the offer and said it was worth $24 million.
The Cavs are banking on Bynum being healthy. He missed all of last season with knee injuries after the 76ers acquired the 25-year-old last summer from the Los Angeles Lakers in a four-team trade.
Bynum is expected to meet with Atlanta and Dallas before making a decision. Bynum played one season in Los Angeles under Cleveland coach Mike Brown.
Sources close to the Mavericks told 105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher that Bynum represents an "imperfect Plan B'' after the team lost out on free agent Dwight Howard. According to Fisher, the team would want the contract to contain an "Exhibit 3" clause, which would provide protection against Bynum's knee problems.
