Sonogram Debate Put On Hold

AUSTIN (CBSSDFW.COM) - The Texas House ended debate on the controversial sonogram bill with the author sending it back to committee. The bill is expected to come back for debate Thursday.

During Wednesday's debate Houston Democratic State Representative Carol Alvarado, holding an internal sonogram probe, says in cases when a fetus is below eight weeks this sonogram bill would require a more invasive sonogram than most people think. "HB 15 provides no exceptions for victims of rape and incest. They would be forced to undergo this very intrusive procedure."

The author of the bill, Stephenville Republican Representative Sid Miller, says sonograms are already done before abortions, his bill only sets up a procedure to fully inform a woman of the procedure and allow them to view the sonogram if they want to. "Many testified in committee that if only they would have been able to see that sonogram their decision would have been different."
