Some Rangers Fans Upset With Dallas Shirt Design

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW) - How bout those Texas Rangers! They clinched the AL West yesterday and fans have been swarming Academy stores to get their hands on championship swag.
"It was great to see them get that win," says Eddie Jenkins. "Me and my wife Patty, we're over the moon."
Championship shirts especially have flown off the racks, and only a handful remain. But part of that shirt design isn't sitting well with some fans. The shirt shows the words "The West is Ours" over a picture of the Dallas skyline. Some fans think since the Rangers are based in Arlington, that image doesn't belong.
"I like it," says Jenkins. "Sure, they aren't called the Dallas Rangers but we think of them as ours."
Mindy Hale doesn't see what the issue is either. When she thinks of the Rangers, the state of Texas comes to mind, not a particular city.
"As long as they're representing the state somehow, that's all that matters," she says.
The design was created by the MLB. The Rangers had no part in it, and they've decided not to stock the shirt at Globe Life Park.
However they feel about the design, fans agree this a fun team to watch. Hopes are high that the Rangers will go far in the playoffs.
"They're playing with a lot of heart," says Patty Jenkins. "They're playing as a team. How can we not win?"
CBS11 News reporter Ken Molestina took this photo of Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams who said he won't wear the shirt. He does however support the Rangers and is encouraging all North Texans to do the same.
MLB released the following statement to CBSDFW.COM today regarding the shirts:
"We made a mistake in using this design for the Rangers. As a result we are not shipping any more skyline t-shirts to retailers and we are instead offering alternate Rangers Postseason shirts."
