IRVING (CBSFDW.COM) - It was a somber night in Irving where mourners packed a small church to say goodbye to three little children who drowned last week in an apartment pool.

CBS 11 was the only station invited inside the service by the parents.

The sobs of a young mother filled Bear Creek Community Church in Irving while a community tried to soothe Patricia Smith's unmanageable pain.

"You're going to have a lot of dark days but God is always there in the darkness," said Anthony Bond, an Irving resident who spoke at the service.

Those words offered only so much comfort to the parents of 11-year-old Anthony, 10-year-old August and 9-year-old Trisshawn Smith. A fun family outing last Wednesday to their new apartment pool ended with all three drowning while their mother tended to a toddler also in the water.

"They're in heaven. They're swimming in God's swimming pool now. They'll never drown again they'll never die again," said Bond.

Three promising lives cut so short had mourners wondering why. It's a question no one could answer.

Relatives of the victims publicly thanked those who have offered emotional support and the financial help to pay for the funeral. Those speaking at the service say the mother deserves sympathy, not scrutiny for what happened.

"The only thing in life that really matters is what God thinks about you," says Pastor Dennis Webb, Sr., Bear Creek Community Church.

With that message, the mother and her remaining children now face rebuilding their lives.
