Soldier Who Plotted Texas Attack Awaits Sentence
WACO (AP) - An AWOL soldier convicted of planning a massive attack on a restaurant full of Fort Hood soldiers as part of his religious mission faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced in Texas federal court.
Army Pfc. Naser Jason Abdo has said he will represent himself in court when he is sentenced Thursday.
Abdo, 22, said during an earlier hearing that he and his attorneys weren't communicating effectively. He was convicted in May on six federal charges, including attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction.
Abdo was AWOL from Fort Campbell, Ky., when he was arrested last summer at a motel near Fort Hood with bomb-making materials.
