Social Media Becomes Tool For Candidates To Reach Millennials

DALLAS (KRLD) - Candidates refer to "battleground states", but social media may have become the most important battleground in this presidential election.

Both candidates made heavy use of social media to reach voters and shape image. Dallas Social Media Manager and blogger Melissa Kaylor says that's becoming the only way to reach younger voters. And Kaylor says Donald Trump seems to be the clear winner in the Twitter Wars.

"Clinton is more conservative and she's trying to appeal to Millennials, and it's very clear that she's trying really hard. But then Trump is the guy at 3:00 a.m. who's, you know, tweeting a lot of really just unhinged, candid, candid things, statements. He's been doing it for over a year and I think it's really interesting how his stuff catches on, a lot more than hers, when it comes to earning free media time."

Kaylor says candidates also must now use social media to track responses to everything they do, and to quickly change strategy based on Facebook and twitter reactions.
