Soaking Rain In The Forecast For The Weekend
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Starting Saturday night through Monday, showers and thunderstorm look likely for much of the area. A good soaking rain will be possible.
TONIGHT…
Winds stay strong out of the south around 15 to 25 mph. Temperatures will be mild in the upper 60s under clear skies.
TOMORROW…
Mostly cloudy skies with some spotty drizzle and light rain possible in the morning as moisture returns from the Gulf of Mexico thanks to those south winds. Temperatures will warm into the mid to low 80s in the afternoon with a few breaks in the clouds by afternoon. There will be a chance of storms in the evening on Saturday. Some of those storms could be severe. We are in the slight risk for severe weather tomorrow with the favored area for storms being north and east of Dallas. Hail and winds appear to be the biggest threats although there may be a tornado threat across NE Texas into SE Oklahoma and Arkansas.
SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY…
The chance of storms Saturday evening will be thanks to a cold front that will slide into the area. This front will slowly slide south of DFW during the morning hours on Sunday. More showers and thunderstorms are likely during the morning on Sunday. Temperatures will start Sunday around 70 degrees, but behind the front in the afternoon temperatures will drop into the 50s. It will definitely be a cool, cloudy and rainy Sunday afternoon.
MONDAY…
The front will linger in the area on Monday as the upper level disturbance move overhead. Widespread showers and thunderstorms appear likely on Monday too. The threat for severe weather on Sunday and Monday appears relatively low, but there could be a few isolated severe storms that produce some hail and winds. We will also have to monitor the position of the front on Sunday and Monday as storms along and south of the front will have a much greater potential for severe weather and tornadoes. At this moment, the front appears to stay south of North Texas after it passes thru on Sunday.
Rainfall totals starting Saturday evening thru Monday look impressive for our area. There is a bulls eye of 4+" in Northeast Texas and up to 2" to 3" will be possible across the metroplex for a three day total. After the rain ends Monday night, quiet weather should prevail for most of next week.
