Snowball Express Gives Comfort To Gold Star Families

The Snowball Express is in Dallas Forth Worth this week giving families who have lost a military parent a Christmas of hope and healing.

Snowball Express was formed 10 years ago when a final letter from a soldier to his family was printed in the Los Angeles paper.

"The article was about a soldier who was killed in Iraq.  Part of that article was a printing of his last letter to his wife" said Executive Director of Snowball Express Buck Kern.

The letter asked his wife to keep their promise to take their kids to Disneyworld.  That article was the genesis for the Snowball Express.

Now, 10 years later, Snowball Express brings over 1800 family members from all over the United States to Dallas Fort Worth.  While here they are treated to a VIP experience to let them know they are not forgotten and their loss will always be remembered.

American Airlines charters jets to fly around the country for free to pick the kids and a parent up for the yearly event.  All the flight crews donate their time as well.

During the four day Snowball Express there is a concert and massive balloon release.  Each balloon carries a message of love from the kids to the heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice to keep us all free.
