Snoop Dogg Popped For Pot In West Texas

SIERRA BLANCA (AP/CBSDFW) - Rapper Snoop Dogg is facing a minor drug charge in Hudspeth County after border agents say they found several joints on his tour bus over the weekend.

In an email to CBS 11, the Hudspeth County sheriff's office said that Snoop Dogg, whose name is Calvin Broadus, was arrested early Sunday morning at the U.S. Border Patrol's Sierra Blanca checkpoint along I-10.

The email says during an initial inspection of citizenship a border patrol agent smelled marijuana coming from the bus and requested a further inspection.

A drug dog alerted to a trashcan at the back of the bus, which contained a red prescription bottle of marijuana rolled into cigarettes.

Broadus freely admitted the 0.130 lbs. of pot inside the bottle and two other containers belonged to him.

He was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor typical in cases involving small amounts of marijuana.

Broadus and his group were released about an hour after his tour bus was pulled over.

County Judge Becky Dean Walker says paraphernalia citations are typically resolved by a no contest plea and a mailed-in fine of up to $500.

The artist's agent didn't immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.

Country singer Willie Nelson was arrested in November 2010 for marijuana possession at that same checkpoint.
