DALLAS (KRLD) - On only the third day of the school year, a female SMU student claims she was sexually assaulted in the Ware Commons dorm building on Bush Avenue at about 11:30 Wednesday night.

Campus police say the student told them her attacker was another student, and an acquaintance of hers. Other students are now a little more concerned about their safety.

"That happened in a dorm, and I know that freaked some people out because they're thinking it happened in their home," says Margaret Graham, a new freshman at SMU.

Graham doesn't know the victim, but says it was a scary thing to happen on only her third day of college. She can't decide yet if this incident makes her feel less safe on campus.

"I think you're going to get that everywhere you go, and you've just got to be aware and watch out for your friends and stick together," Graham says.

SMU sent out a crime alert about 2PM yesterday, and students say they're pleased with the quick alert.

Campus police are investigating. Anyone with information can call police at 214-768-3333, or report anonymously right here.
