Smartphone App Lets Rangers Fans Upgrade Seats
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – Ever get to a ballgame and think, "I wish I had a better seat?"
A new free app allows Texas Rangers fans to upgrade their tickets once they get to the ballpark.
"Starting when the gates open, you can upgrade your seats," explains Rangers VP of Ticket Sales, Paige Farragut. With the "At the Ballpark" app fans can sign up to receive the best available seats and then use their credit card to pay for the upgrade. The new seat locations are sent directly to the fan's phone.
"If you are in the upper level and would like to go to the club level you can upgrade…or from the club level to the lower level," says Farragut.
Upgrading to the corner box or lower reserved seats (including sections 10-13 and 39-42) costs $15 per ticket. Upgrading to club level seats (including sections 217-235) costs $20 per ticket. Lower box or lower infield seats (including sections 14-38) cost $25 per ticket.
The Rangers debuted the service August 13, and it will be available for every game through the end of the season. Already more than 1,000 fans have signed up for it.
"We know people that can't necessarily pay what it would cost in advance to get that ticket, can now have an opportunity to get a better seat."
Once Rangers fans download the app to their phone, they need to select the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington as their venue. Then they can choose to get updates for every game or sign up for upgrade notifications for specific games. Inventory varies for each game and is available for each game once ballpark gates open.
The "At the Ballpark" app works on iPhone and Android smartphones.
