Smaller Stores Hope To See Holiday Shoppers Too
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - At Toy Works in Fort Worth, Nancy Hay said they try hard to make every customer's visit a special one. "We focus on service," she said, "and making our customers happy being knowledgeable of the toys."
Hay has been running the specialty toy store – located at the Village of Camp Bowie – for 28 years. "It's family-oriented," Hay said. "It's safe. It's relaxing. It's no hustle and bustle."
To bring even more families into the shopping center, Santa and his reindeer will be there on the weekends for pictures, along with carolers to set the right mood.
Meanwhile, at Ashlin's Boutique in Grapevine's historic downtown, shoppers can expect to find some Black Friday discounts. But owner Debbie Kellum said that customers at her shop will hopefully walk away with much more.
"We'll serve refreshments, have entertainment," Kellum said. "It's a historic area. It's just a special place for people to come."
These smaller stores are hoping to attract more customers through their doors over this big shopping weekend on Small Business Saturday – a mom and pop's counterpart to the traditional Black Friday.
As an incentive to shop at the local gems on Saturday, American Express is offering a $25 credit to customers who spend $25 at a small business on November 26. "We can offer you on Saturday what the big box stores can't," Hay said.
American Express credit aside – these smaller local stores will provide a unique shopping experience, one that owners hope will ultimately bring customers back even after the big deals.
