HALTOM CITY (CBSDFW.COM) - One staff member was taken to the hospital and one student was treated at the scene, both for smoke inhalation, after a small fire broke out at Haltom High School.
The fire started in the stairwell of the theater after school had let out for the day. The fire and was put out shortly after it started. Haltom City's deputy fire chief, Fred Napp says a student tried to loosen a knot in a rope by using a lighter, and caused a backdrop to catch fire. He said one student was trapped for a short period of time but wasn't hurt.
Fire and school officials assessed the damage and allowed students to reenter the building for after school programs around 4 p.m. Many after school programs went on as planned.
