Slain Soldier's Parents Not Jubilant After Bin Laden's Death
FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) – The parents of a Frisco soldier killed in Afghanistan say there was no cheering or jubilation in their home upon hearing the news of Osama bin Laden's death.
"We didn't jump up and down and or anything like that," said Chris Bush. "It was just nice to know that Osama Bin Laden is gone."
Peter Courcy, 22, was killed Feb. 10, 2009, by an improvised explosive device thrown from a vehicle.
"It brings comfort and peace," said Courcy's mother, Mary Bush. "It does not bring closure. I think when you've lost your child, you get your closure when you get to be with him again."
Courcy's parents said their son aspired to join the Army when he was a young boy. He never waived from his dream of someday joining the Army's Special Forces, they said.
He had been evaluated for the elite squad before his death and was told he had the right stuff to apply when he was a little older.
"He wanted to be in the Army for life," Mr. Bush said.
His mother said Courcy would have thought of those who lost loved ones in 9/11 and in the wars had her son been alive to hear of bin Laden's death.
"I'm sure he would be happy to know there were many moms who would have had a sense of comfort for a few moments, who have lost their loved ones" Mrs. Bush said.
Mr. Bush said he is glad the al Qaeda leader is dead, and hopes it raises the spirits of those fighting for America overseas.
"This man has been heading up a lot of terrorism for a lot of years and then we have all of our servicemen and women who have given their lives to catch him, and so it's very satisfying," he said. "I mean the job's not over, but I think the (al Qaeda) organization's been weakened."
