Sixth Grade Friend Of Teen At Center Of Child Porn Bust Talks
HURST (CBSDFW.COM) - Shock, disbelief and feelings of betrayal from students at Hurst Hills Elementary School who considered Ricardo Lugo, 17, a friend.
Hurst Police charged Lugo on Friday with sexually touching a third grader. Lugo was previously arrested in November after it was discovered by investigators he allegedly enrolled in the sixth grade with the help of Randy Wesson, 28, who acted as his father.
Child porn was also found in the home where Lugo and Wesson lived, according to investigators.
"What's kind of going through my head is why would he do that?" said Kaitlyn Cade, a sixth grader at Hurst Hills Elementary.
With the permission of her parents, Cade spoke about the person who she thought was her friend. Cade said they would play football together, basketball and hang out in groups like normal middle school children.
"He acted like a normal 12-year-old. He was like goofy and funny and would sometimes get in trouble," said Cade.
Although he was tall, Cade said she never suspected Lugo of anything and never witnessed him trying to inappropriately touch anyone.
"It kind of makes me feel scared I guess because if this happened once, who knows who else is out there," said Cade.
Hurst Police are still urging parents at Hurst Hills to have that conversation with their children. They believe there could be more potential victims in the area.
"I would freak out if anything happened to my daughter. And to think anybody else would get hurt, (shakes head)," said Lori Blaker, the mother of Cade.
Blaker held her daughter a little tighter on Friday night realizing just how close her daughter came to losing her innocence.
"It's hard to trust people," said Cade. "Once you hear something like that, it's going to be even harder in life to trust people and to open up your heart."
Lugo is in state custody because he is not considered an adult at the federal level. Wesson is now in the hands of federal authorities.
