Six People Killed In Southeast Oak Cliff Car Crash

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Six people died Sunday after the car they were in lost control, struck a curb and smashed into a tree in Southeast Oak Cliff, Dallas Police said.

The accident was reported just after 9:30 p.m. near Bonnie View Road at Highland Hills Drive.  Arriving firefighters quickly asked for a heavy rescue response because of people pinned in the wreckage.

Dallas Police Major Max Geron confirmed the fatalities via Twitter.  Police said four of the victims died on scene.  The other two were taken to the hospital but later died.

Police said the vehicle was heading southbound on Bonnie View when a rear tire hit a curb.  The car then smashed into the opposite median and plowed into a tree. Investigators said speed was a factor in the crash.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Officer was on scene helping remove the victims from the wreckage.

The names of those involved have not been released.
