Siemens To Eliminate More Than 150 North Texas Jobs
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Siemens Industry, Inc has announced that it is preparing to layoff more than 150 employees in the North Texas area.
A spokesperson for Siemens said North Texas employees were notified Thursday that layoffs will take place until the end of 2013. About 160 full-time employees are expected to be affected. All layoffs will take place in the infrastructure and logistics division.
Siemens will eliminate the jobs in separate phases. 110 jobs will be eliminated by the end of 2012. The remaining 50 will be phased out by 2013 based on order intake.
Siemens has also announced that it will be closing its office in Arlington. Employees from the office will be absorbed by the company's DFW Airport location. The transition is expected to be complete within six to nine months.
"These decisions are never easy and Siemens understands the impact this has on the employees and the community," said Terry Heath, the president of the mobility and logistics division. "Unfortunately, the company must take these steps to remain competitive in this extremely challenging market."
Siemens employees 5,200 people at 62 different locations in Texas. The company has about 360,000 employees worldwide.
