Shots Fired During Denton Home Invasion

DENTON COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - A home invasion led to gunfire in a quiet Denton County neighborhood. Now investigators are trying to find the remaining suspect responsible.

It happened early Monday morning in the 18000-block of Comanche Road. Three people were inside the home when armed thieves broke in and began making demands.

"He has a lot of friends," Bill Tabor said of his grandson, one of the victims, "I'm sure that word was around that he had a few pistols or something and some money."

Tabor lives next door to his grandson, who was inside with friends overnight. That's when Tabor's other grandson noticed something strange outside and went to check it out.

"He went out there this morning about three o'clock to see who was in the car, and the three men held a gun on him and made him go in the house with them," Tabor said.

Investigators say, 25-year-old Hakeem Fakree Jones, 20-year-old Dezmon Gassaway, a minor suspect, and a fourth suspect tried to rob the men inside.

"They made everybody sit down, and they had guns on them, robbed them, and then evidently, right about then the police pulled up," Tabor said.

Keith Bettis lives next door to the victim's home.

"One of them jumped out that little window over there, and the police officer just happened to be here, and he said, they're in the house, and they got us under gunpoint," Bettis said.

Bettis heard two gunshots, but police say no one was hurt. Now neighbors can't help worry they could be next.

"They could have hit us or our neighbors or anybody," Bettis said.

Investigators believe that fourth suspect who got away may have made it to Fort Worth, where local police are helping with the search.
