Teen Arrested After 3 Young People Shot At Saginaw Skate Park

SAGINAW (CBSDFW.COM) - A teenager has been arrested and accused of shooting three people at a popular skating park in Saginaw on Thursday night. It happened shortly before 7:00 p.m. off of Stafford Station Drive and High Country Trail, near two neighborhood schools.

The incident began with an argument between a group of young people at the city park. According to police, 17-year-old Amari Joseph pulled out a gun during the confrontation and fired about 10 shots. He fled from the scene, but was found at a home a short time later.

"They actually surrendered as police were approaching the residence where they were located," said Capt. Russell Ragsdale of the Saginaw Police Department. "It's unknown if they live there or if they were just visiting, but they did surrender peacefully upon our arrival."

Joseph has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Meanwhile, the victims are all recovering and are expected to be okay. One of them was a 14-year-old boy who was shot in the hand. He has already been released from the hospital. The other two victims, both 20 years old, were struck multiple times in the legs.

Police said that there is no connection between the shooter, the victims and the nearby schools. Ragsdale added that this type of violence is rare for Saginaw. "It's very rare. Our little town here, we encounter a shooting maybe once a year, once every two years. Not something we see real common."
