Shooting Spree Suspect Arrives At Dallas Jail
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The man accused in the brutal murders of three women and a 17-year-old girl is waking up on Monday morning behind bars. Erbie Bowser was booked into the Lew Sterrett Jail over the weekend. Bail for Bowser has been set at $6.5 million. He faces four counts of capital murder and other charges related to last week's shooting spree, which also injured four children.
Bowser was transferred to jail late Saturday night. He had been in Parkland Hospital since the shooting rampage for a physical and mental evaluation. And, regardless of how long it takes for him to be brought to trial, many of those left grieving in the wake of the killings see this as a significant development. Friends and family members of the victims are eager to see Bowser face a jury, because they want justice.
Among the victims was 17-year-old Tasmia Allen, co-captain of the Duncanville High School drill team who dreamed of being a teacher. Her friends, family members and classmates gathered Sunday night at the school to remember the girl who they said always had a smile on her face to share.
Allen was killed along with her mother, Toya Smith, on Wednesday night. Family members said that Smith had dated Bowser, but was trying to end that relationship. Allen's close friend was also injured in the shooting, as was her younger brother, Storm Malone. He is receovering at Parkland Hospital. "Everybody just pray for Storm," said. "That's all we can do right now is pray."
Hundreds of grieving friends, family members and co-workers also gathered over the weekend to remember Bowser's other alleged victims from that shooting spree. His estranged wife, Zina, and her daughter, Neima Williams, were also killed on Wednesday night. Mourners filled the front yard of their DeSoto home and spilled out onto the street, sharing tears, support and happy memories.
Funeral services for the victims are still being planned. Smith and Allen will be laid to rest at a joint ceremony on Saturday.
