RICE (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Navarro County's sheriff, who investigating a suspected murder-suicide that left a family of five dead, says he's working to separate the gunman's possible motive from "just a whisper in the wind."

Authorities have said Guadalupe Ronquillo-Ovalle died in September of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, while her husband and three children were shot dead.

Their bodies were discovered in the family home in Rice, about 40 miles southeast of Dallas.

Sheriff Elmer Tanner said Thursday that he's waiting for DNA results on evidence taken from the home. Tanner says authorities have interviewed people in their efforts to determine why Ronquillo-Ovalle might have shot her family, but he had nothing definitive to say publicly.

Tanner said he was hoping to separate facts from rumor in the incident.
