Sheriff Loses Appeal Over Obama Immigration Order

PHOENIX (AP) - An appeals court has rejected an Arizona sheriff's bid to revive his challenge of President Barack Obama's plan to shield as many as 5 million immigrants from deportation.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit ruled Friday that Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio failed to allege an injury that can both be traced back to Obama's plan and can be rectified by an order to stop it.
The court concludes Arpaio's claim that Obama's plan would cause more crime in metro Phoenix was speculative.
The plan remains on hold, however, after a Texas judge issued a ruling in a separate case that halted Obama's executive action.
An appeals court in New Orleans heard arguments in that case a month ago.
No decision has yet been issued.
