Frisco Fire Department: No concerns about air quality after pool chemical warehouse fire
FRISCO – The Frisco Fire Department said it has no concerns about air quality in the wake of a 3-alarm fire at a pool chemical supply warehouse Wednesday morning.
In an update Wednesday afternoon, Fire Marshal Kelly Kistner said the fire may have started as a chemical reaction on a pallet outside the warehouse. The fire spread to a nearby vehicle which exploded, igniting material inside the building.
Firefighters from Frisco, Little Elm and other agencies responded to Texas Pool Supply John W. Elliott Drive near All Stars Avenue around 8 a.m. Employees were inside the business at the time, but everyone was able to evacuate.
The fire was extinguished at 9:28 a.m. Seven police officers and three firefighters were taken to the hospital for chemical exposure, and were all released later in the day.
Hazmat units were on the scene because two of the chemicals involved in the fire were considered hazardous. Crews from Frisco's public works department also responded to help contain water runoff. The Frisco Fire Department said it did not use foam to fight the fire, so runoff will not be an issue for the water supply.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality also responded to the scene.
Authorities initially issued a notice to shelter in place for a section of the city including a hospital, municipal buildings and apartments, but the notice was lifted at 9:18 a.m.
