Sharon Jones, Soul Singer With Dap-Kings, Dead at 60

NEW YORK (CBSDFW.COM) - Funk, soul and R&B singer Sharon Jones died on Friday of pancreatic cancer. She was 60.

The enigmatic lead singer of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Jones was first diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 2013 but later went into remission nine months later. The cancer returned in 2015.

The Dap-Kings were by Jones' side when she passed away, according to their website, which also has the following statement up: "We are deeply saddened to announce that Sharon Jones has passed away after a heroic battle against pancreatic cancer."

The site also says in lieu of flowers, fans can donate to: The Lustgarten Foundation, James Brown Family Foundation or Little Kids Rock.
