Sex Increases After 50 Years Of Marriage

WACO (CBSDFW.COM) - Researchers have some exciting news for married couples. That spark in the bedroom will make a comeback, as long as partners can reach the half-century mark.
A study by experts from Baylor University, Louisiana State University and Florida State University looked at the trends of sex during marriage. As most people might expect, newly married couples get between the sheets frequently, but that number tapers off over time.
The good news is that sex becomes more frequent again for couples in marriages that reach past 50 years.
The rebound may have something to do with trust. "You may have a higher level of trust when you feel that your spouse isn't going to go anywhere," said former Baylor researcher Dr. Samuel Stroope, who now works at Louisiana State. "The expectation that the relationship will continue may give you more reason to invest in the relationship."
The study looked at more than 1,600 married Americans between 57 and 85 years of age. Researchers also found that a first marriage is more sexually active than couples who have been remarried, though it makes no difference in terms of physical or emotional satisfaction.
