Severe Weather Leaves Damage Across North Texas

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Severe weather moved across North Texas late Tuesday afternoon.

Rain, high winds and lightning caused damage in several cities.

For a period of time parts of Dallas County was under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning.

Severe weather caused quite a bit of damage in Garland. City officials posted pictures of trees snapped in front of church and another that landed on top on an SUV.

The steeple of the South Garland Baptist Church was torn off.

Late Tuesday evening city officials were reporting downed trees and power lines. There was a mix of Garland Power & Light and Oncor customers who were without power.

In all some 700 people were in the dark. Officials said all available crews were in the field making repairs.

Garland emergency management officials were also heading out to access the damage.

So far, there have been no reports of injuries in Garland.

In Fort Worth a woman says she was struck by lightning. Savannah Parker, 20, said she went outside to her car during the storm and felt a jolt as she touched he vehicle. Parker was not seriously injured and is already back home from the hospital.
